See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

An index maybe? idk it’s pinned post time

Hello!! I’m claudia (She/Xe), i’m queer and trans as hell. I’m an absolute nerd for all things math, podcast, linguistics, and honestly most other things related. I will not shut up about maths and audio dramas, and while i rarely have thoughts on them, i will have emotions about them and y'all will be subjected to those

If you’ve arrived here, you’re probably looking for fun content! I’m awful at tagging things generally, but right now my system of organization looks like:

  • Mathematics! You can find pretty much everything under the #math or #mathblr tags, and most of these are going to be shitposts about whatever topic has come across my mind today
  • Podcasts! You can find any specific podcast tagged under its name and sometimes the related acronym (especially spirit box radio, the penumbra podcast, the magnus archives, and station arcadia) or if you just want random audio drama content, check out #the arcane box vibrates (is it obvious i have thoughts on spirit box radio yet im trying to be subtle)
  • Languages! Generally things in other languages that i post/reblog on here will be tagged in that language (commonly #deutsch, #suomi, and #gaeilge) thought i know i have some legacy tags floating around like #suomiperkele and #deutsches zeug
  • Video games! Most of my reblogs are about Nier: Automata and Hades Hadesgame, and are tagged under #Nier and #hades respectively. Right now i think most of this is really awesome fanart! Although there is a stardew valley shitpost around here somewhere that refuses to die and has more notes than anything else if you’re interested.
  • Asks are tagged under #undergoing peer review, and feel free to send me any!

In any case, enjoy your stay, drink some water, and stay spooky friends!

So what this paint company does is take iron pollution from abandoned mines that are polluting soils and rivers and makes iron based red pigment paints out of it.

Basically they realized hey no one's cleaning this shit up, it's polluting the streams, killing all the fish, making the water undrinkable and there's a huge market for it so why not make money by cleaning it the fuck up?

image

They remove this stuff by the industrial bucket load from the rivers. The idea is if it's in a painting, if it's in your home, it's not poisoning wildlife.

anyway its cool as shit, please support tf out of these people https://gamblinstore.com/reclaimed-earth-colors-set/

This isn’t adding ice just for the sake of denial, it’s adding to the Earth’s albedo. This in turn actually makes the Earth’s climate cooler, and then more ice will be produced naturally because of this.

It isn’t a process we need to continue forever, in fact it’s one that needs to be calculated so that we don’t do it TOO MUCH. The only worry would be cooling down too much.

So yes, this is a good idea. It simply isn’t the only thing we should do because we still have gross pollution.

the-adhd-society

For the love of god do it . anything just do it. Give us hope.

Here’s the thing: Most environmental catastrophes humans have ever or are currently creating can be fixed. It’s not just a matter of “oh no, things are ruined, and maybe we can stop the degradation so that things don’t get any worse, but we’re stuck with how things are.” There are some things we can’t do, like bringing back extinct species. But there are a lot of other things we can definitely do, many of which are being done right now. The problem is that most of our willpower and effort is spent on bullshit tiny things that won’t solve the problem (individual recycling, etc.) and not on the large-scale things that can and will make a large-scale difference.

Ice caps are melting? Guess what! We know how to make ice. It’s not that hard. Designing mostly-automated robot ships to go to the poles and rebuild the ice caps is well within our current technical capabilities. We just need to fund it.

Deforestation on a massive scale? Destruction of other biomes? Guess what! We know how to plant trees. We know how to plant grasslands. We know how to take barren, lifeless land and turn it back into a viable biome. It’s not that hard. In a lot of cases, if there’s neighboring areas where that biome still exists, all you have to do is dump a few tons of biomass (plant clippings, food waste, etc.) on the barren land and stand back and wait. The biomass will provide nutrients and keep the topsoil from blowing away, and the plants and animals from the neighboring biome will move in. In two decades, even if you don’t do anything besides dumping the biomass on it, you won’t be able to tell what was the barren area and what was the still-existing biome.

Coral reefs dying? Now, coral reefs are a bit more fragile than most biomes, but guess what! We still know how to replant/rebuild them, and in fact are working on that in places affected by coral reef die-off! And we’re learning how to do it better every day.

Desertification? Guess what! We know how to turn desert back into green space. They’re doing it on a large scale in China and sub-Saharan Africa. There are several different techniques, none of which are even very technology-intensive. It takes money and time and labor, but it’s perfectly doable. We know this because we’ve done it.

Plastic in the ecosystem, particularly in the ocean? Guess what! There’s a lot of people working on this, both on “how to remove plastic from the ocean” and “how to reuse/recycle it more efficiently.” And the techniques are improving by leaps and bounds every year. This is a solvable problem. These are all solvable problems.

So if you’re crushed by the weight of the coming environmental catastrophe … don’t be. These are all solvable problems! We can stop things from getting worse, and we can fix the things we’ve broken. The issue is political, not practical.

On the political side, of course, is the need to tighten up environmental regulations across the globe. (What’s the statistic, that 90% of pollution is caused by 100 corporations?) And then of course, we need to fund these programs on a large enough scale.

In some ways the political aspect is the hardest, but consider this: we are at a tipping point. Things are changing about the way politicians talk about climate change and ecological degradation. More ordinary people are concerned about this, which means more pressure on politicians. One of the ways that things are changing is that people–even conservatives–are starting to talk about “job opportunities in new green fields” and switching the conversation so that it’s not “rainforest vs. jobs” makes political action a lot more possible. And no, it’s not going to happen on its own, but it can happen.

This is a solvable problem.

izze-bizzle

I *needed* this. Climate change has had me feeling SO helpless, having a list of things that can actually potentially be done is beautiful

elfwreck

We can fix (or at least, mitigate) the environmental damage caused by climate change.

What we can’t do: Continue the petrol-based industrial lifestyle that’s been on the rise for the last hundred years.

We have to change the way we use energy in our daily lives. For most of us, that means we need to cut back. It doesn’t mean drastic changes for most people… except.

It DOES mean drastic changes to the corporations whose entire business plan is “sell more tomorrow than you did today.” And they will fight like hell to prevent any laws or even social changes that mean we’re not increasing our energy use in the future.

Climate change is not a problem of science; it’s a problem of capitalism.

This whole thing made me feel a tiny bit safer and honestly a bit more motivated to help with this stuff if I ever can

If you've ever wondered why people in Hawai'i hate tourists, try to wrap your mind around the fact that there are CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, tourists sipping martinis and looking at fish within swimming range of the fresh corpses of local people who couldn't escape the overnight destruction of their entire town.

Try to comprehend that there are fully functional, high capacity boats passing through the waters in front of an area full of survivors who are stranded and in need of supplies, refusing to help. They are hosting snorkeling tours.

Really think about, try your best to actually picture over two thousand people unhoused and in need of shelter, with nothing but the clothes on their backs and nothing to return to. Understand that the island, stolen land, is littered with hotels full of air conditioned of rooms with beds and showers and toilets, each fully equipped to host hundreds of families for weeks, turning these people away because they're booked up with tourists who refuse to leave.

And understand that these tourists were offered free transport to return home or be hosted on other islands. Free. Courtesy of local tax dollars. 4,000 wealthy tourists were offered free flights shelter on Oahu and begged to leave the island, BEFORE the survivors were given shelter.

And enough still insisted on remaining and carrying out their vacations that people are left without shelter and resources while they enjoy "their stay in paradise".

basuralindo

In case this gains any traction, I NEED people to understand that this is not an invitation for mainlanders to get on a soapbox and start telling each other whether or not or how to visit Hawai'i. The tourism situation is complex and difficult and you don't get it if you haven't lived through it at minimum wage. You don't fully understand the complexities and you will not. And you are liable to do more harm by trying to dictate rules and ethics of visiting the islands to each other.

If you want to help, listen to local people. Seek out and boost what they're saying. Send each other local sources of information. Research from local sources. DO NOT take this crisis as an opportunity to insert your views and speak for us.

LGBT activists have been vocal about intersex issues for several decades, because establishing the legal right to bodily autonomy for intersex persons is basically inseparable from establishing the right of trans persons to that same legal autonomy over their own bodies. many intersex persons prefer not to be grouped together with LGBT causes; however, the vast majority of LGBT activists would agree that performing "corrective" surgery on intersex infants - to force them to adhere to a largely fictional gender binary - is pretty fucking evil.

[Image IDs: a series of tweets from #EndIntersexSurgery (@/ Pidgejen) reading: Anyways, let's start with what I thought I once knew about myself. When I was 18, I discovered I wasn't like other girls. My medical records read "male pseudo-hermaphrodite 46 XY" & other BS terminology that pathologized my healthy/beautiful intersex body.

I discovered then that I had been diagnosed with partial androgen insensitivity syndrome (PAIS); my XY body couldn't fully utilize androgens (like T) and so I developed mostly like a typical female person externally.

For me, this meant I had a somewhat "ambiguous" looking body (aka a non-binary body) and the doctors performed 3 unnecessary cosmetic surgeries to make me look more like a "normal girl"

(peanut emoji) gonadectomy
(scissors emoji) Clitorectomy
(kitchen knife emoji) vaginoplasty

Not to mention, they lied to me about All Of This and then forced me to take Premarin (a low does of estrogen made from extracting the hormone from a pregnant mare's urine (horse face emoji, crying face emoji)

Anyways, I got in touch with a new endocrinologist recently thanks to my therapist at @/ RuchMedical who suggested I see him.

He did something no other doctor had ever done. He asked me if he could see my medical records, all of them, and then took time to read of them.

He even reached out to other experts in his field when he was confused by something.

Wow, We love humility in medicine.

Anyways, he ended up suspecting something is up and that perhaps my PAIS diagnosis is wrong.

He then orders me a genetic (dna emoji) test. Thanks to covid it took almost half a year to get the results, but a month or so ago I got them back.

Turns out, I don't have PAIS. I actually have something else known as NR-5A1. Now this is big news mostly because 1. It supports my thesis that docs who deal with intersex kids don't know shit...

And 2. P/AIS intersex folks are believed to not be able to utilize androgens and wo we're often only given estrogen (never T), forcibly "feminized" with fucked up "cosmetic" surgeries, and forcibly assigned female.

Doing what they did to me was fucked up enough, but now realizing that they didn't even have the diagnosis right—and that I *can* utilize androgens—is fucking infuriated beyond belief.

We need to #EndIntersexSurgery y'all like yesterday. /End IDs]

I GUESS IT'S TIME TO BRING THIS BACK AGAIN.

Hey, remember that time the massive conference I worked for, that claimed to be trans-inclusive and safe for POC:

  1. took thousands of dollars from The Daily Wire,
  2. gave them a massive booth DIRECTLY when you walked into the vendor hall,
  3. allowed LITERALLY BEN SHAPIRO in with no badge,
  4. liked tweets harassing me and other attendees when we said this made us feel unsafe at an event that claimed to be inclusive,
  5. and then, after days of watching me (who again -- THEY PERSONALLY KNEW AND HAD WORKED WITH) and others get attacked by Ben Shapiro's people, libsoftiktok, etc etc etc get death threats and transphobic harassment on twitter, issued a formal apology...

not to us, but literally to Ben Shapiro?

word says The Daily Wire has a booth there again this year.

Fuck Podcast Movement.

if you're there, i hope you give them hell about this. but also, i don't, because you will face horrific repercussions and it ultimately will not change anything. am i glad i spoke up? yes. would i do it again? yes. was it worth it? i really don't know.

tumblr staff: hello! we are testing out a new thing. it is experimental so we want lots of feedback on this from the community! :)

the community: hey this sucks. all of us agree this change is dogshit and needs to be either completely reworked or just not implemented at all. here is exactly how to fix it btw.

tumblr staff: thank you for the valuable feedback everyone! we are doing it anyways :)
